Dodecyl Dimethylamine is an intermediate of a quaternary ammonium salt type cationic surfactant. Dodecyl Dimethylamine can react with ethylene oxide, dimethyl sulfate, diethyl sulfate, methyl chloride, benzyl chloride, etc. to form different quaternary ammonium salt. 

Dodecyl Dimethylamine also can react with sodium chloroacetate to obtain alkylbetaine zwitterionic surfactant.

Dodecyl Dimethylamine also can react with the hydrogen peroxide to get an amine oxide product.

Dodecyl Dimethylamine is used as an important intermediate in the synthesis of vitamin E.
